DETROIT – Two kickers and a punter were identified in the talent search by the Prokicker.com staff on Thursday and Friday here.

Garrett Wallen, a rising senior at Midland High School in Midland, Mich., proved to staff coach Matt Reagan he knew where the sweet spot was on the football.

“He didn’t chart the best but right away he got my attention because he hits a really nice ball,” Reagan said. “He really hits it on the sweet spot.”

Reagan said when Wallen followed through on his kicks, it was usually a clean ball with perfect rotation.

“The only time he got in trouble was when he didn’t swing through on the kicks,” he said.

Wallen performed well on kickoffs, including a kickoff of 64 yards with a 3.81 hang time, and won the camp’s Long Distance Field Goal competition.

Staff coach Josh Raphael was impressed with a pair of 2013 class kickers – Breaton Zuzo of Canton, Mich., and Alex Barta of Clarkston, Mich.

Zuzo, who is attending Plymouth High School, made 80 percent of his field goals and routinely sent kickoffs deep, Raphael said.

“He’s probably got the best height I’ve seen on a kid his age,” Raphael said. “He had good hang time on kickoffs and great height on PATs and field goals. The kid just gets the ball up real well.”

Zuzo is also a punter but kicking is his future, Raphael said.

“He’s got a strong leg and he’s one of those students of the game. You tell him what he needs to do and he understands it. He understands technique, which is good.”

Barta, who will be a junior at Clarkston High School, came to chart at the Prokicker camp. He’s been to several Prokicker camps previously. Rapheal identified him as a top punting prospect.

“He’s got a good leg and charted well,” Raphael said. “I was real impressed with him.

Prokicker.com camps roll into the Chicago area on Saturday and Sunday. Go to Prokicker.com for camp information.
