Kozlowski 'rockets' way toward top

WORCESTER, Mass. – Dominik Kozlowski won the Long Distance Field Goal competition at Saturday’s Ray Guy Prokicker.com camp with a 50-yard kick at College of the Holy Cross in the Boston area.

But that’s only because that’s all that was needed.

Kozlowski, a rising senior who will be kicking for Christian Academy this fall, could have bombed one in from 60 yards or further, said Prokicker.com staff coach Ryan Guy.

“He’s got a strong leg,” said Guy. “The ball rockets off his foot.”

Kozlowski is a veteran of Prokicker.com camps, this one being his fourth. He said the reinforcement from the coaching staff – and a refresher course on the many drills that are taught – make it the perfect camp.

“It’s exc ellent,” he said.

Kozlowski’s long-range kicking ability was on display in other charting, too, Guy said. He also won the camp’s Long Distance Kickoff competition with a 69-yard boot.

“Three of his four (kicks) were over 60 yards and the one he mishit went 59,” Guy said. “He’s a very good kicker and seems to be a good kid, too.”

Kozlowski wants to kick somewhere in college in 2013 and Guy considers him a top candidate to land somewhere.

“He’s got a college leg,” Guy said. “I firmly believe he could kick somewhere.”

Kozlowski has been kicking since he was a third-grader and he’s been a high school kicker since his freshman year. This will be his first season at Cushing Academy after transferring from Lawrence Academy.

At Lawrence, he didn’t have many opportunities for field goals – “We score (touchdowns) almost every single time,” Kozlowski said - although his longest kick in competition is 50 yards. He said he’s hit from 60 yards in practice.

On kickoffs, he consistently puts the ball in the end zone or very close. Kozolowski also punts, averaging about 33 yards per kick, although he readily admits that placekicking is his forte.

“I’m definitely a better kicker,” he said. “It’s what I like to do. But if I hit the right spot when I’m punting, it will go far, too.”

Kozlowski was third in last year’s Prokicker.com national championship competition and should be in the thick of things again.

Guy said the potential in Kozlowski’s strong leg separates him from a lot of the competition.

“He hits the ball so well,” he said. “He barely missed a 60-yard and could have hit one from 65 or even 70. He’s got great form.”

Kozlowski, who also plays wide receiver and safety, considers him a long-range kicker. He has a 3.3 GPA and has scored a 1810 on the SAT.
