SEATTLE - Chavo Camargo is a rising kicker with a strong leg that has caught the attention of the Ray Guy Prokicker.com staff who has identified him on their talent search as a top prospect.

Camargo, a rising senior at Mountain View High School in Vancouver, Wash., put on an impressive performance at the Seattle area camp. He won the Longest Field Goal competition with a 45-yard boot and shined throughout.

He said this was his second Prokicker.com camp and staff members helped him with football placement.

“It increased my speed, how fast I was coming through to the ball,” he said. “I came to this one for the skill charting but I was able to learn some things about what I was doing wrong.”

Camargo has been a high school kicker the past two seasons. He was an all-league selection after 90 percent of his kickoffs went for touchbacks. He was 4-for-6 on field goals as a sophomore and 1-for-2 last season.

“We just didn’t try many field goals,” he said, but he made the extra point on 43 of 45 touchdowns.

Camargo said his longest field goal in a high school game “was around 40” but he had connected from  62 yards out in practice.

He said Mountain View puts emphasis on special teams but the more information he could gather from a technical standpoint the better.

Camargo’s goal would be to someday kick in college. He said Eastern Oregon and Central Washington have been to his high school looking for kickers.

“All I can do is go out and play,” he said. “We’ve had a couple of mediocre seasons but last year we made the playoffs. I’m hoping we can go a lot farther this year. I think we’re a team on the rise.”

Just like the senior kicker.
