LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. – Kickers Brady Runyon and Eddie Juarez were the top prospects from the Ray Guy Prokicker.com camp in the Los Angeles area last weekend.
Juarez showed off his strong leg with a 72-yard kickoff while also charting 7-of-10 on field goals.
“He’s a good one,” said Prokicker.com staffer Josh Raphael. “Big strong leg. He needs to keep working, but he has a lot of potential.”
At the camp in the San Francisco area, campers had to endure 100-degree heat with temperatures hitting about 140 degrees on the field turf, said staff instructor Bobby Behr.
“It was murder on your feet,” Behr said. “But the kids did a great job.”
Skyler Rand (2013) connected on a 50-yard field goal to win the Longest Field Goal competition. He was identified in the talent search as a top prospect, Behr said.
“He was a combo guy who did a good job punting, too,” Behr said. “We’re dealing basically with a sophomore. He has a good leg. He’ll be a good prospect the next two years.
“Everybody else did OK and learned a lot. Hopefully we’ll hear from some of the others down the road.”
Campers were treated to a visit from Pro Football Hall of Fame center Jim Otto, whose grandson Josiah Otto was attending the camp as a punter. Jim Otto spoke with the campers and parents about his days with the Oakland Raiders. He retired in 1975 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1980, his first year of eligibility.
Otto was not only the regular snapper for the Raiders but he also did the long-snapping during his 15-year career. He played in 308 consecutive games.
Otto is a special projects director for the Raiders.
