MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A junior kicker from Clinton, Miss., made a nice impression on the Ray Guy Prokicker.com staff Friday morning.
Reece Everett (class of 2013) came to chart at the Prokicker.com camp in Memphis and made 90 percent of his field goal attempts and averaged “around the goal line” on his kickoffs with a 3.7 hang time, said staff member Ken Olson.
“Every ball he kicked was straight into the wind,” Olson said. “He adjusted. It’s a tribute to him from what he learned at the camps he’s attended.
“You could tell he understands the technique and has confidence in his ability,” Olson said. “He has an incredibly fast leg and every ball he hit was very solid. The things you could see, he was very particular on his steps and mechanically sound.”
Everett’s only field goal miss came from 60 yards on the left hash and he missed it right, Olson said.
Everett came in as a combo kicker and he worked on punter at first. That’s when Olson noticed how he carried himself with confidence.
“He was a punter and he had average punts,” Olson said. “(But) Of all the punters I worked with all day, he comes in as the best punter. It was nothing outstanding. He’s more of a kicker and good backup punter.”
Olson estimated that Everett’s punts averaged about 37 yards with a 3.7 hang time.
“As we went to the field goals and finished with the kickoff you could see this was an outstanding kid with how he carried himself.”
Olson said Everett “is definitely someone to consider and he gets older and more mature.”
2013 long-snapping prospect
Another prospect who impressed the staff was long-snapper Patrick Williams, another member of the 2013 class. Williams, who is from Marian, Ark., is just learning the long-snapping position.
“I’ve never been asked so many questions,” said Prokicker.com staffer Will Fitchett. “He really picked my brain on some things.”
Fitchett said while Williams is a work in progress his ball went straight every time after some minor tweaks.
“His speed was above average,” he said. “If he went to one or two more camps, he’d be right there. He’s got some potential.”
